Since they can no longer get away with casting doubt on the science, the fossil fuel industry is going all out on disinformation and fear mongering to slow the inevitable progress of clean energy and climate action across the US.
We can’t just push back. We have to SMACK IT DOWN.
To enter, create a post calling out fossil fuel disinformation. The best stuff wins money, and all of it helps smackdown the dirty disinfo standing between us and a liveable future!

RESOURCES AND GUIDELINES
We’re looking for material that is original, funny or creative, and can be helpful to mobilizing people to take action against disinformation.
We’re not looking for point by point refutations of claims. Fossil fuel disinformation is lies at worst, and distracting bullsh*t at best. And bullsh*t shouldn’t be challenged directly. Instead, creatively inform people by exposing the players, their motives and tactics, and the minor details they omit, like all the people they’re killing.
WHO WE ARE
Shut the Fossils Up was created to use social media to organize to fight back against industry efforts to torpedo climate action in NY State. Our proof of concept – that there are lots of creative ways to expose this despicable behavior – is on the STFU YouTube channel.
Yellow Dot Studios is a non-profit media studio founded by Don’t Look Up creator Adam McKay to push back on big oil’s disinformation, and mobilize action on the climate emergency.

CONTACT: “STFU’s Dirty Disinfo Smackdown” is created by and operated by “Shut the Fossils Up” a nonprofit dedicated to the promotion of clean energy over antiquated and poisonous fossil fuels. For questions regarding this contest email stfu@yellowdotstudios.com.
ENTRY: In order to submit your creation, post it online between March 28 and April 12. Include the following in your post: use the hashtag #DirtyDisinfoSmackDown; tag/mention @weareyellowdot and Shut the Fossils Up. Then, submit the link to your post as well as your contact information via this submission form.
DATES: Submission Deadline: Submissions will be accepted until April 12, 2024. STFU retains the right to extend submission deadlines at will. Semi-finalists for People’s Choice Award will be contacted via email by April 15, 2024. Voting for People’s Choice Award begins April 16 and ends April 23. Winner Notification: Winners in all categories will be announced on STFU and Yellow Dot’s social media platforms on Wednesday April 24, 2024. STFU will also notify prize winners via email starting April 24, 2024. STFU will use the contact information provided by the creator via the contest submission form. Winners must claim prize money within 180 days of receiving notification
AWARD JUDGMENT: Prizes will be awarded in the following way: First place (1): $5,000. One ‘first place’ prize in the amount of 5,000 US Dollars will be awarded, this winner will be chosen by the team at Shut The Fossils Up. Runners up (2): $2,500. Two ‘runners up’ prizes in the amount of $2500 US Dollars will be awarded, these winner will be chosen by the team at Shut The Fossils Up. People’s Choice Award (2): $2,500. Two ‘peoples choice’ prizes in the amount of $2500 US Dollars will be awarded. The “People’s Choice’ prizes will be determined by audience voting. Additional awards (up to 20): There are (up to) 20 additional $500 US dollar awards that will be awarded at the discretion of STFU.
